The pink ice protea is the hardiest in the protea family. In cultivation, they thrive best in full sun with good air movement. The more sun the protea plant gets, the more flowers they will produce. Native to South Africa, it belongs to the family of plants proteaceae, which also includes the Australian banksia. Today, they are used extensively as commercial flowers because they are hardy, long-lasting and have beautiful texture. Considered a wild flower, it is now very popular to use proteas with other flowers to create unusual arrangements.
They are hardy and require minimal attention. With basic care of a fresh change of water and trimming of stems daily, they can last up to 7 days. Remove leaves when they turn black so that energy can be directed to keeping the flower blooming for longer.
To dry, just remove the stalk from water, keep it away from direct sunlight and let nature take its course.
Single variety flowers come wrapped in brown paper with a water bag. This ensures sufficient hydration for the flowers so that they remain fresh between the time it is put together and when the recipient receives it.
Here are the number of stalks you will find in each size:
Small — 3 stalks
Standard — 8 stalks
Large — 15 stalks
The pink ice protea is a medium-stemmed variety, ideal for dining tables.
