The monstera is a member of the arum family araceae and it is an epiphyte with aerial roots that is able to grow up to 20m in the wild, with large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves. But as an indoor plant, it only measures between 2 and 3 metres when grown indoors. The older the plant, the more perforations – also known as fenestrations – there would be on the leaves, which earned it the other name it goes by, the Swiss cheese plant.
