The name calla stems from the Greek word for beauty but unknown to many, the calla lily is, in fact, not a lily at all. They were identified as lilies in the 18th century by a Swedish botanist but soon after, a German botanist realised that they are of another genus… but the name had stuck. So to this day, this beautiful trumpet flower is known as the calla lily.
